Six skiffs + two other wooden craft; about 45 people and 100 km of rowing over five days – the steamers run provided the opportunity to explore the Gippsland waterways and tributaries.
Crews from England, Perth, Denmark (W.A), Lake Macquarie, Melbourne and of course Tasmania had a great time both on and off the water – starting at Bairnsdale, then on to Nicholson River and Metung, and ending at Paynesville to participate in the Parade of Sail at the Paynesville Classic Boat Rally.
We experienced ideal rowing conditions, apart from one extremely blustery morning when departing Metung. However, we all arrived safely in Paynesville and no one got (too) wet.
Huge thanks to Geoffrey Daniel and David Cliff for organising this event, for SASCRAA members. Thanks and appreciation to the amazing support and ground crews, plus the support vessels Isla Star and Moon Mist.
