5 kilometre challenge – Port Cygnet Regatta – 7 to 9 March

We have received the following invitation from Cygnet:

Just wondering if the Franklin Rowers would like to do the 5k challenge again to participate in the Port Cygnet Regatta Rowing Competition for 2026.

Be great to have you join in the fun image.png The results would have to be in before the Regatta on the 7th, 8th, 9th March.

Cheers, Wendy

Same rules as last time:-

  • Crews can be all female, all male, or mixed with a maximum of 2 males.
  • The winning boat is the one closest to the average of submitted times.
  • There will be two categories, One where the rowers ages add up to less than 280 yrs., and one for the crews that better that milestone.
  • The Cox should download an app on their mobile phone that measures distance and records time. (Suitable apps include Runkeeper Navionics and Strava but others are available)
  • Start training by setting your course using the app to measure a distance of 2.5 km, then a 180° turn and 2.5 km return to the starting point, tracking back as near as possible to the route taken on the way down.
  • Choose the day and time for your race entry within the the week preceding the PCSC Regatta. Once you have started your race/row, the app must remain running until you cross the finish line. You may rest at any time during the race but the rest time will be added to your row time.
  • You may race/row as many times as you wish during the week, but only send in one result.
  • When you have completed the race/row, take a screen shot of your time and distance on the app and provide details of the crew including their age bracket. The name of your crew should be included. The name that is of the greatest assistance with the boat’s progress will be rewarded.
  • Send your results, screen shot and crew details to Wendy Le Cornu (0409 614 985) before 6 pm on Friday 9th March.
  • Winners will be announced in conjunction with the regatta results.
