‘Grade 5 kids from Franklin Primary are enjoying their On Water program at the moment – we seem to be dodging the worst of the weather conditions, although tide and fresh water run last week made the kids earn their money (and learn quite a bit about how the effects of tide and run are additive). We are planning to extend the program a bit this year by encouraging volunteer students who’ve completed the On Water program to participate in a more independent use of the Grebes, with 3 kids taking the boats out to explore the Huon and build up boating experience. No adults on board, but safety boats will be present. We may try a sailing day or two and a possible link up with the Huon Rowing Club. We’ve specified a maximum of 4 boats, going out on Friday December 5, 12, 17 and Jan 2 2026, between 3 pm and 5 pm. We are looking for a couple of volunteers to help with supervision and safety. If you can help please notify Mike Dredge (mike.dredge47@gmail.com or ph 62663018 / 0429476437). You’ll need a Working with Vulnerable People card and a sense of humour, first aid knowledge a bonus.‘
