A public jetty for Franklin?

The ‘dispute’ about the pontoon/jetty at South Franklin has hit the headlines of the Huon News. The immediate interest that we at the Living Boat Trust have in this pontoon is as a rowing destination for our schools program. What’s not to like – a playground, toilets, shelter. swimming and an easy place to tie up no matter what the tide. We used it for years – until it was closed. Of course we are not the only ones who appreciate it. The list includes day tourists, dog walkers, fisher people, campers, photographers, diners at the restaurant next door, people staying at the adjacent cottages, wedding parties, patrons of the hotel across the road, boats (flying and floating) and so on. Andrew Perkins, the current owner, wants to give it to the Council to make it public and thus eligible for MAST funding and accessible to everybody. Council are concerned about costs. We hope Andrew is successful!
