On the rugged island of Unst, where the gales speak in tongues and sheep outnumber people thirty-to-one, lived Tammas Mucklebriggs, a man as broad as a barrel of salted herring and nearly as pungent. It was said Tammas could smell a leaky hull before it had sprung, which either spoke of his craftsmanship or his unfortunate proximity to the problem.
