A small but enthusiastic group of rowers from the LBT spent last week enjoying the delights of rowing a St Ayles Skiffs in the company of Victorian rowers down the Glenelg River.
The Glenelg is very close to the SA border, in fact we even rowed in and out of SA on our last day of rowing. In total we rowed 70 km over 3 days. Mostly we meandered through the Lower Glenelg National Park. This provided us with calm waters, beautiful scenery, small jetties every 1km or so, some linked by roads others were part of the Great South West Walk.
On our first day of rowing we covered 18km, this took rather a long time as the wildlife, mostly the 18 koalas, captured our attention and many donuts were performed to go back for a better look and a few photos.
The expedition was extremely well organised by Simone from Coastal Rowing Geelong, Geoff from Mordialloc Sailing Club and David from Warrnambool St Ayles Skiff Community Rowing Club Inc. Geelong also generously lent us their boat Covent Gardens.
This was a brilliant expedition in great company, the good news is it is likely to be repeated in two years’ time. So, join a crew and get rowing so you can be part of this adventure.
