Tribute to John Young from the ‘Stroke Oar’

‘John was a keen and valued member of the Tuesday skiff rowing crew right up until it became physically impossible, but he was known to let his mind wander when it was his turn to take the tiller. One day he ran slap bang into the big snag (‘the shark’) near the channel between the Egg Islands. John knew who to blame. “You talk too much and distracted me” he growled without missing a beat.

The Stroke tells us John was doing most of the talking.
