We nautical types know that the engine that really got international trade moving was the spice trade, the Dutch East Indies and all that, but apparently our knowledge of history is only partial, and the trade in Indian spices to Europe goes back to Roman times when it was huge. There is a new (and enjoyable) book about it called ‘The Golden Road’. Anyway, lets celebrate all that good spicy South East Asian tucker by bringing our favourite dishes along on Monday night to share, along with $5 for the kitty and something to drink.
