They are a straightforward people the Dutch, liable to call a spade a spade. Our old friend Bert van Baar (supervised the Dutch dinghy build over at the Wooden Boat Centre for the 2017 Festival) sent us ‘a video of a “shit-race” organised in Holland to commemorate the early Cow-shit transports from Friesland to Holland provincies for 150 years ago. It’s a sort of raid for large barges at the end of the sailing season: https://youtu.be/TwhIYu0yA38. It starts at Workun Friesland and ends in Warmond between Amsterdam and The Hague.‘
Well worth a look if you want to see some gorgeous old lee-boarders.
In other news Bert tells us that he passed on Gary Hardy’s Tawe Nunnugah video to the ‘Natural Sailing’ Group, and they have posted it (see https://www.natuurlijkvaren.nl/) with the information that Tawe Nunnugah is Maori for ‘gaan met een boot’. Bit of trans-Tasman pollination perhaps.
