| Ros Barnett writes: ‘The stop at Southport is always a highlight of the raid. It has become a bit of a tradition to stroll up to the pub (Australia’s most southern) and have a bevy in the early evening then back to Jetty House for Ros Wright’s fine cooking, and the music around the fire. We are thrilled that the group Dreamboat will be our entertainment again. Breakfast the next morning will dampen the hangovers and fire everyone up for the regatta activities. Before the feature sailing race around the 1932 course in the afternoon there will be other events for the rowers and the swimmers. You can chose to take a history walk to learn the fascinating stories of the French explorers, or have an Adventure on the Ida Bay Railway including a visit to Lunaris Gemstones. The final event is the race of the Quick & Dirty boats, built with cardboard, sticky tape and huge amounts of imagination. Remember to have some cash with you for lunch on this day because it is the only time on the raid when the Living Boat Trust caterers get some time off. On the lawns at Jetty House there will be the Fire Service BBQ, Maasaki’s Famous Sushi Tent, and Amber’s Café to see to your hunger. If you have friends who would like to come along and see what we get up to on the raid invite them to visit Southport on Friday for the feast and music (non-Raiders will pay $25 for dinner), and Saturday 31st January to join in the fun and events. I would appreciate an idea of the number of extra visitors for the benefit of the caterers. On Sunday morning Ros Wright will dish up a fabulous breakfast, and boats will depart to cross the D’Entrecasteaux Channel heading for Mickey’s Beach with a lunch stop at Partridge Island or Butlers Beach. Peace will descend on Southport again. ‘ Even better news (for some) might be that Ros Wright still having rooms to rent in the house for softies!!
