Rowing out a rhythm

From Ros Barnett:
‘There is always a musical moment on tawe nunnugah. The first night at Southport has a guest musician or twenty, and often someone hauls out a guitar around the campfire for a singalong. Songs help rowers keep rhythm, and a drum can do the same. For tawe nunnugah 2015 we are trying something a little different. We are taking along a box full of ukuleles and a cajón
You don’t know what a cajón is? It is a box drum (pronounced ca-hon), usually with an adjustable snare inside, that you sit on while you beat out a rhythm. . The internet has a mountain of material on how to make one.
Gary Mac, who purchased a fine ukulele made from bestTasmanian timber at the last Australian Wooden Boat Fetsival, has offered tocompile a song book of three chord songs so that by the time we get toSullivans Cove we will all be ukulele virtuosi.’
