JP and Jack have been working hard the last few weeks to put the finishing touches to the new St Ayles Skiff ‘Esperance’ which is now ready for launch. This is the culmination of a lot of work by many people (see below). We have received the following invitation.
It is with great excitement that PESC announces that “Esperance”, the community’s hand-made, timber, 7 metre St Ayles Skiff is heading out on the water as part of PESC Junior Sailors Presentation Day. A result of the State Government’s Destination Action Plan funding, received through Far South Tourism in conjunction with PESC, the building of the rowing skiff has been through the efforts of community volunteers ranging all along the Huon Valley from Franklin through to Southport. These include the Living Boat Trust, Dover District School and Port Cygnet Sailing Club’s Water Women. Special thanks to Peter Laidlaw, renowned Tasmanian boat builder for his invaluable guidance and knowledge.
Rose Wright, Matt Wardell, Barbara Glaus, Sally & Rob Gregor, Cristine Tait, Ian Preston, Andrew Weir, Martin Wohlgemuth, James Vicary, Jack Witte and Jean-Pierre Scheerlinck have contributed generously throughout the build along with a highly valued army of additional volunteers. Sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed.
The Far South and neighbouring wooden boat communities are invited to help celebrate the addition of “Esperance” to the St Ayles Skiff fleet, with a sausage sizzle at the PESC clubhouse. Bring your lifejacket if you’d like to have a row with us in the bay – weather permitting!
