Many of us at the LBT remember very fondly the sailing ketch Yukon and David, Ea and family who operated her here in Franklin up until 2022. As most people will know Ea died twelve months ago, and David had Yukon on the market in Denmark. However there are new plans. David writes:
“After the death of Ea Lassen last December, we decided as a family to take Yukon off the market, and create a memorial trust in her honour...
Ea had been instrumental in nearly every aspect of planning, restoring and operating our lovely little ship, and one of her final dreams was that the family continued to sail and explore the oceans aboard Yukon.
The principal of our trust is that only paid-up members can sail with us. This is a quite common arrangement in Denmark and enables vessels particularly traditional wooden ships to operate and be preserved under a principal of shared responsibility and ownership. “
