Last Friday afternoon the LBT hosted the ‘Quick and Dirty Regatta’ organised by the Wooden Boat Centre for a very prestigious trophy.

The previous day the boats had been constructed by apprentices and workers from Cygnet, Hobart, Kettering and Franklin.
All of them were lined up for inspection on the LBT lawn. There were some ‘interesting’ designs. Somehow they all passed the seaworthiness test, and then were trooped down to the starting line at the sand ramp.

Amidst a fast and furious start all vessels set off for the far mark.

The spectators were, of course, hoping for blood in the water, but the completely untested boats proved amazingly resilient with no early sinkings, so there was a real race.

The Franklin apprentices in the Viking boat disdained all this competitive business, instead setting off for a sail up and down the river.

In the end Jerome and Danny crossed the line first.

Afterwards everybody trooped back to a tremendous spread organised by Endra on the LBT lawn and for Cody to do the presentations.

To top everything off Ruth (with Rohan) launched the beautiful little dinghy she built with the certificate students.

What a day. We have never had anything like it before. Big thanks to Endra and to everybody else who pitched in to help.
