Annette Cauchi writes:

Have you ever wanted to learn the art of stone carving? If so, here is the opportunity you have been waiting for. Stone artist and tutor, David Barclay will be conducting two workshops in August, at the Living Boat Trust in Franklin. These days will be suitable for beginners or those with some experience.

David is visiting the Huon Valley during August and will be holding two Sunday stone carving workshops. The first, on August 3rd, will be an opportunity to make a birdbath or large bowl using an angle grinder. This technique is easy to learn and even beginners will be quickly designing and creating their own piece of stone sculpture to take home and place in the garden.

The second workshop, on August 10th, will be an opportunity to learn the gentler art of chiselling patterns and designs into the surface of the stone. Again, the techniques are not hard to pick up and suitable for those with no experience. David guarantees that the workshops will be enjoyable and will provide people with all the skills they need to get started in this satisfying, traditional craft.
