The screening of this film (at the Palais) should be a great night. Deb Coomb writes:
‘This multi award winning documentary is a must see for anyone who believes they have Irish blood, dreamt about an adventure, travelled to France/Spain & fantasized walking the Camino Trail or just wants to be entertained. Synopsis: 5 Irishmen build a basic traditional Irish rowing boat (Curragh), then row this tiny vessel 2500kms from Ireland to Northern Spain. That’s the equivalent of rowing from Hobart to New Zealand. What makes this film so special? 1: Music……. SENSATIONAL. If you love traditional Celtic music, then this film is for you. 2: Bravery……..Glen Hansard, who, without any boating experience, boldly steps in as a sub when one of the crew must stay behind in Ireland. 3: Beauty…………..Breathtaking photography as the Curragh is rowed around the French and Spanish coast. 4: Inspiring……..“People might say we’re out of our minds… you need some of that because if you’re sensible all the time – sure you’d do nothing.” Quote by rower Danny. 5: Danger: Dodging cross-channel ferries and monster container ships. 6: Drama…… Then there is a tragic final twist to the tale. 7: Community Fund Raiser: event run by the Palais Management Committee; door takings donated to local groups – Wooden Boat Centre, Living Boat Trust, Huon Rowing Club and Franklin History Group. The Camino Voyage has it all – adventure, danger, courage, endurance, friendship, philosophy and humour – plus calloused hands and sore buttocks.
