Pontoon Design

We have been in discussion with the marine engineer Murray Isles about how best to refurbish our pontoons, and following a suggestion from Hans Sipsma to move the flotation to the outside, Murray has come up with the design attached: bit.ly/23M3Bl5 .  This design uses each of the steel pontoons (currently sitting down near Cartela) as a core, with 3 large rectangular floats down either side.  It gives the stability and carrying capacity required, and minimises that amount of construction work required.  We already have 4 of the floats in the sitting in the new extension, but will need eight more to complete the project.

The current plan is to deploy these pontoons in an ‘L’ shape over near Cartela (see sketch below).  This would be new home for Nancy, freeing up the existing pontoon, as well as providing extra space for mooring dinghies.  Access would be by the large aluminium gangway currently sitting in the paddock.

The details of this will be the subject of a discussion at the shed at 5pm on Monday 18th April.
